Curriculum
Mapping
Dear Parents and
Educators,
Please find attached
the K-12 curriculum maps in religion and mathematics. These maps were
written by the administrators and teachers in the Diocese of Bridgeport
and are the prescribed curriculum for the thirty-nine Catholic schools
in Fairfield County. Each grade level’s content, students’
skills and the types of assessment used to evaluate the students’
skills are clearly articulated in these maps.
The maps of the
Diocese of Bridgeport will demonstrate how our Catholic schools exceed
state standards. For students who excel there will be enrichment activities
and for our special needs students there will be a remedial component
planned by a learning specialist.
Finally, as superintendent
of schools I want to sincerely thank Bishop Lori for his tremendous
support for the curriculum mapping initiative. Every teacher and administrator
in the diocese deserve credit for this document. Our Catholic schools
have developed an instructional plan based on best practices and data
driven research. I am so proud of the administrators and staff who together
designed, developed and implemented this cutting edge academic program.
This program is delivered in a faith-based environment, which nurtures
the students and teaches them to love the Lord.
Sincerely yours,
Margaret A. Dames,
Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools
Curriculum
Mapping focuses on the quality of leadership and the effectiveness
of instructional programs and practices. By having every teacher map
his/her curriculum, the teachers own the process and product. The teachers
receive professional development throughout the mapping in the areas
of data driven instruction an classroom leadership strategies.
In 2005-2006, the
Bridgeport Diocesan Schools have mapped Math grades K-9. Currently,
teachers and administrators are mapping Science, and during the school
year 2007-2008, we will be mapping reading and language.
